INT. RUTH'S DINING ROOM - NIGHT
Describe. Hunter, Wanda, Ruth around table. Bottle of red wine, their glasses half-empty. Photo album. Still life oil on canvas.
RUTH: Is the wine alright, Hunter?
HUNTER: The wine is very good. Actually and a little eerily, in a good way, it's one of Barbara's parents' favorite cabs.
RUTH: Jan and John.
HUNTER: Yes. Tom mentioned them?
RUTH: When he facetimed us the night before horseback riding.
WANDA: First time he ever did that.
HUNTER: Chloe showed him how.
RUTH: He told us.
A pause, all swirl and sip.
WANDA: Hunter, speaking of wine, sort of but not really, Carl in Foglost has a drinking problem that was intricately expressed. The attention to detail, psychology and arc is...umm, well, profound.
HUNTER: We know what's in the details, don't we?
WANDA: I do, in this regard. Tom and I met in an A-A meeting. Maybe he told you that.
HUNTER: He did.
WANDA: Your glass of wine makes clear you'll have a drink, but, and I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you ever have a problem with alcohol?
HUNTER: Yes. It killed my marriage and kept me from writing for a couple years. Well, writing anything worth shit, anyway. Pardon my Latin.
to be continued.
[Did Tom's dad drink? Yes.
Hypothesis re post-war.
Re Cedric.]
